Is in reading it and having heard
What is hopefully glorious prose.
It lasts for good, as everyone knows.
One thing that perturbs me about Kindle etc is the lack of permanence. These things are not meant to last. That alone is reason enough to ensure the good old fashioned printed book must never die, especially paperbacks. I can see there being a time when we desperately want to seek a book but if it was only brought out electronically not necessarily being able to do so. After all who uses floppy disks these days? I’m not anti-Kindle. I just don’t want books in themselves as just being for the moment. They’re more than that.
I have used Kindle myself (on the PC) and I like being able to alter text size to suit me. Downloading is nice and easy too. But my overwhelming preference will always be for a printed book. I also don't see the need to choose and think the death of the paperback has been exaggerated. I can't see there ever being a time when a (relatively) cheap book, which is easily portable and doesn't need batteries, is not a useful item.
