WHAT I LOATHE ABOUT MY CHARACTERS
Jenny, even allowing for being dropped in it from a great height by her mother, shows a well developed talent for sulking when Eileen does do her best to compensate. Jenny gets to the point where she’s not prepared to give her mother any quarter at all. In that sense, Jenny proves she really does have human blood! Like Eileen, she gives the Queen a good verbal bashing and again, even when the monarch is trying to make up for things, is unwilling to back down at all. Mind being abducted by an alien being probably doesn’t induce the let’s be forgiving tendency. Jenny has to watch her tendency to sulk - there are beings out there who would use it against her.
Derek and Paul, on discovering what their wives are, show equal unwillingness to forgive. They see what their wives have done as nothing but deceitful. They choose not to see their wives were protecting them from things they really didn’t need to know about. They also don’t see their wives really love them and surely that matters more than their species? Later, the men accept Jenny is more of a victim than aggressor in this but continue to give Eileen a far harder time than she deserves. Eileen after all did give everything up for Derek. She’s proven her love for him. Her hurt at his attitude is understandable.
