I write short stories because I love the complete tale in itself idea and they lend themselves to my favourite type of story - fairy tales.
I have had short stories published on the Shortbread Short Stories website and A Helping Hand was published by Bridge House Publishing in 2009 in their Alternative Renditions anthology.
I am delighted to say that on 11th May 2014 my two stories, Giving It A Rest and Green Door will appear on the Alfie Dog fiction site.
There is a lot of humour in my short stories though I sometimes write darker tales, such as Punish the Innocent (now on the Shortbread website archive section), which looks at what happens to a character made deranged by grief.
I am currently working on a short story collection, working title Life and Other Fairytales, which I hope to send out later in 2013 to publishers I already have in mind.
Some of my characters turn up in more than one story (which I enjoy, partially I think because it shows the character is strong enough to carry more than one story) while others make one-off appearances. One of my poems shows what I think about short stories in general.
Cherish the short story
And don’t let the form die.
Crime, Humour, Fantasy
Love tales that cause a sigh
Celebrate them and read
Anthlogies and mags
Write your own, sow the seed
So the form keeps going.
