WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT MY CHARACTERS
Hanastrew has become the Kingdom’s armoured division and is a brilliant squad leader in terms of courage and tactics. Her ex-mentor was Eileen though Hanastrew does not understand why Eileen chose to defect. Having said that as the Queen becomes more militant against Eileen, Hanastrew does start to realize just why Eileen was getting fed up with the magical world and wanted to leave. The fact she fell in love with Derek made leaving even easier to do. Hanastrew develops her range of spells too but falls foul of L’Evallier for eavesdropping on him. She is, however, good friends with his wife, Melanbury. An honourable character, the Queen could to worse than follow Hanastrew’s example.
Melanbury is a noble elf contracted to marry L’Evallier. The pair of them admire and come to love each other but it takes ages to consummate their marriage because of her awkward shyness and L’Evallier is painfully aware he’s not supposed to be emotional yet he’s crazy about her. Melanbury is traditional but begins to assert herself as her confidence rockets (thanks to her marriage taking off) and ends up becoming the Queen’s correspondence secretary. L’Evallier doesn’t entirely approve but Melanbury relishes her new role and thrives so he doesn’t get in the way (many of his kind would stop their wives). A happy Melanbury benefits L’Evallier, something he is only too aware of!
