- That rejection is not something to be feared but is to be learned from and used to help improve your writing. This is especially true if lucky enough to get some feedback on your submission (as I have had from time to time) as others will see things you missed. You can get too close to your own work to be objective.
- That it is perfectly normal for it to take ages (think in terms of years) to be published.
- That you will never forget the joy you feel when you are first published. (Subsequent acceptances of your work also bring great joy of course but most writers remember and treasure the first time this happened. It is validation).
- That any industry has charlatans and scam merchants and there's no reason to assume publishing is exempt from this.
