Having said that, there is no animal cruelty unless you include obliterating dragons that happen to be threatening your village. Even there Eileen and, later, Hanastrew, pride themselves on killing cleanly. They do this more as a matter of professionalism though, in fairness, neither fairy godmother would want anything or anyone to suffer more than they have to do so. Eileen also points out it pays to destroy a dragon quickly or it will destroy you and that is a difficult point to argue.
The main difference is of course the Kingdom has talking animals (Puss in Boots to name one example) but these are seen as fairytale characters in their own right rather than as creatures.
