Yes to an extent. That is if you read the original tales. In fairness to Walt Disney, I can understand why they sanitized The Little Mermaid. Compare the original story with what they've done and you'll see why they went for their angle. Far easier to market for one thing! I also couldn't see them doing anything with The Red Shoes where the wicked queen dances to her death in said red shoes. So it does depend on which versions you read. I prefer the originals. My slogan is also an indicator my stories are not meant for young children. I see my potential readership as Young Adult upwards (I'd say 15 or so onwards) at the earliest and given a lot of my stories show relationship issues (mother-daughter especially), I'm really aiming at the women's market.
Mind you, you can't beat a decent vampire story for bite, can you?
