- On Writing by Stephen King. One of the best how-to-write books I've come across and his autobiographical section is great too.
- Scrivener. Confession time, I'm still working out what this program can do, but what I've found out so far I like! I like the templates (I also like the template set up on Weebly).
- Windows 7. Yes 7! My old PC was getting rough around the edges, I had literally worn some of the keys away, but there was no way I was replacing my PC with Vista still out and about. My son had this on his PC and the way it slowed his machine down was incredible (but not in a good way!). My old PC despite having less memory performed significantly better than his. - Story by Robert McKee. Lives up to its name. Very insightful.
- The Seven Basic Plots by Christopher Booker. A very detailed, academic study but I found it fascinating.

(Usually the scanner bit fails). My printer just prints. It is all it does. And pointedly it is still doing it!
- From Pitch to Publication by Carole Blake. Does what it says!
- Winchester Writers' Festival. My writing highlight of the year. I learn lots from the talks, enjoy chatting to other writers and love browsing around the Bookfair.
- Weebly. I like the template format for building a website and find Weebly easy to use. I'm sure I could make even better use of it but I have been able to learn a lot as I go along and hope to continue to do so.
- Facebook/Twitter/Linkedin. I've been a bit of a late comer to social media but I love Facebook in particular for being able to share my thoughts and activities as a writer. I am tweeting more than I used to but still need to get to grips with Twitter, though I can see its uses.
There are a number of books and software programs I've found useful with writing. These are:-
