•Melanbury, aristocratic through and through, happily discovers love and passion with her husband, L’Evallier (though their ancestors would consider this undignified, such things are meant to be discreetly enjoyed whereas everyone in the Kingdom knows the pair are wildly in love). She discovers the joy of working by becoming secretary to the Queen (particularly dealing with correspondence) even though L’Evallier is dubious about this. (Wives working are not to be encouraged). Melanbury knows how to “work” her husband, has discovered sex is a great persuader and has no trouble getting her own way!
