- Clement Clark Moore for the wonderful Christmas poem whose title I've used for this post.
- Charles Dickens for A Christmas Carol. It's a family tradition to watch the Muppet version of this starring Michael Caine in the run up to the big day.
- Christina Rossetti for her wonderful carol In the Bleak Midwinter. I've always loved the line 'But only his mother, in her maiden bliss, worshipped the Beloved, with a kiss.'
- Charles Wesley for Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
- Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander for Away in a Manger.
- Father Joseph Rohr for the beautiful Silent Night and it remains the only hymn I've come across that was written because the church organ broke and something that could be sung to a guitar accompaniment was needed in a hurry.
- Hans Christian Andersen for his powerful and moving The Little Match Girl.
- Oscar Wilde for his uplifting fairy tale, The Happy Prince.
It takes something special to add to the Christmas traditions and certain writers have done this.
