- Door Openings. Many of the Kingdom dwellings have sliding doors that are akin to those in Star Trek, complete with funny noise as the doors open and shut. This tends to be in the more upper class dwellings. The dwarfs don't have much use for sliding doors being below ground so much (though the design of the hobbit hole does appeal to them).
- Morse Code. Those who use wands can programme them to act like a kind of torch and Morse Code has taken off as a means of communication using light flashes when people don't want to use magic or telepathy. That usually means someone somewhere is up to no good or it is Eileen and/or Hanastrew trying to detect and stop/limit the damage caused by that "no good". Morse Code was picked up from the wonderful theme tune to the Inspector Morse series.
- Pubs. All the villages and towns have at least one of these. The inspiration here comes from everything from The Archers to Coronation Street. The Queen is a huge fan of the latter but as Eileen said, the monarch was bound to be! Eileen did spend some time trying to convince her cousin the show was not about regal state occasions but the Queen ignored her and has/is continuing to enjoy what the characters get up to in this soap. For her it is fantasy!
The magical world is pretty shameless about pinching ideas it likes (and does not understand the principles behind our Patent Offices and so on. It is a case of choosing not to understand the principles though). As well as lifting ideas directly, it will also take ideas from television and radio programmes we broadcast on Earth.
