I suppose because I've always loved books and in more recent times loved writing stories of all lengths, it is probably easy for me to take being creative for granted. I just get on and write.
I was delighted to come across Chocolate Muffin Publishing who work with young and old alike to write their own stories, illustrate them and publish them. I was particularly interested in their work with dementia patients. I love the idea of being able to take creativity to people who might otherwise miss out and to be able to hold a book which you wrote is something special. My latest Chandler's Ford Today post is an interview with CMP's Kate Day. It was great to be able to have a look behind the scenes.
So how do your characters show their creative side (I assume they have got one!)? What art forms exist on your fictional world? What would be unique to them? Are the arts appreciated or despised?
Are the arts supported by whoever rules your worlds or can only the rich enjoy them? Are arts imported in from other worlds such as Earth and how do these imports go down with the locals?
Is being creative encouraged or are the authorities wary of it? How do the authorities treat writers (always a good judge of how authoritarian the government is in my view)?
